Does an Exit sign need to have an arrow?
This sign is no longer recommended for use as it does not give an evacuee a clear idea of where to go in an emergency due to the lack of directional assisstance. Regulation states however that consistency is important when fitting emergency signage in a building, so if this sign is used throughout it is acceptable to place an Exit sign without an arrow to avoid confusion. Our official recommendation however is to replace ALL incorrect signage throughout the building to meet regulations and be consistent at the same time. This increases the chance of occupants being able to get out swiftly in the event of an emergency.
